Hong Kong photo diary day 5: Macau

photodiary, travel · February 17, 2018

Hong Kong day 5: we took a ferry to Macau for a day trip. Macau is well-known both for its casinos and its Portuguese colonial heritage, which we definitely experienced. But we were unprepared for the sheer number of people we would encounter. Buses and buses lined up to dump out more tourists and on every street corner was a tour group congregating to count its members. Beyond the tourists, Macau itself is incredibly densely populated – it’s actually the most densely populated country/self autonomous region. We saw this reflected in the run down, soulless apartment buildings that covered the main city.

Just one of Macau’s many towering plain-gray apartment buildings.

Cemetary and bright teal-green mausoleum.
