Hong Kong photo diary day 7: Ngong Ping and the Big Buddha

Uncategorized · February 19, 2018

Hong Kong day 7 (final entry): We visited the Big Buddha on Lantau Island by way of the Ngong Ping cable cars, which offered spectacular 360 degree views of the surrounding hills and water. Getting to the Buddha requires you to push past groups of other tourists and the free-roaming cattle wandering the grounds. The Buddha itself sits atop a small hill within the village. The statue is an impressive 112 ft tall and is positioned amidst a picturesque backdrop of Lantau Island’s foliage. Across from the Buddha is the Po Lin monastery, which was similar to the one of Ten Thousand Buddhas that we visited in Sha Tin, but with far better upkeep and far fewer Buddhas. Ngong Ping was an excellent final stop to our Hong Kong adventure.
